Difference between insoles and orthotics: How orthotics help your feet and other issues:
An insole that you can buy at the store merely makes your shoe more comfortable but does not correct issues. An 'orthotic' arch support is a device designed to restore your natural foot function and give you optimum arch support. The foot is made up of three arches which keeps the body balanced. Over time, gravity or stress (injuries, etc) will weaken one of these arches. The weight of your body then will shift away from the weakened arch and stress the other arches more causing imbalance and pain in other areas of your body. A custom orthotic is cast to specifically fit to support all three arches in your feet, with customized alternations made to correct specific issues such as heel spurs, fallen arches, flat feet, knee and low back issues.

How Dr. Girard creates custom orthotics:
Dr. Girard prefers to cast orthotics weight bearing, with the patient stepping into a casting kit, one foot at a time. In addition, she will wait to cast for your orthotic until she feels your alignment is stable so that your orthotic will support proper alignment. Before fitting patients for orthotics, Dr. Girard also insures the bones and muscles in the feet are at their optimum alignment.

Orthotics are best fitted after a chiropractic session when the body is aligned. She offers this currently at no extra expense if done in a chiropractic session. Orthotics themselves range in price depending on their intended use.
